Hazel Brenes
I was born and live in San José Costa Rica, age 58 years. I studied at USAM, Bachelor of Business Administration with an emphasis on Marketing. Since 2017 I have been at Punto Fusion receiving jewelry classes and I realized that jewelry is my passion.
Making a piece with my hands using various techniques and materials, allows me to express emotions and recreate through a material representation the feelings that come to me, from the observation and appreciation of different references, including the elements of nature, flora and fauna that surrounds us.

The identity of this piece is inspired by the legs and colorful feathers of the Toledo male bird or long tailed manakin that lives in the rain forests of Costa Rica.

This piece is inspired by the qualities identified in the legs of the Toledo bird.
Evolution
Pieces inspired by the different stages of life that I have experienced, its development, trajectory and acceptance of abandoning one stage to advance to another in a gentle and continuous way, experiencing physical, biological, emotional, psychological and spiritual changes.
Earrings - cycle of creation
The mating song and dance of these birds is very unique, the alpha invites a beta to compete by dancing in front of the female for the opportunity to create a new life the males sing and dance fluttering cyclically, the first male jumps flapping and lands on the point where the other was perched, performing this cycle over and over again and the male that persists the longest jumping, is the one who obtains the privilege to mate and grant a life to nature, it is a wonderful cycle of creation that awakens in me an enormous feeling of gratitude for the great commitment that bringing new life to the world means.

This piece is inspired by the qualities identified in the legs of the Toledo bird such as the firmness and strength they exert despite their apparent fragility, as well as the courage to keep dancing and be able to mate I feel a great admiration for the perseverance that this bird has to achieve its goals.

This evolution makes me feel joy for life, pride for the goals achieved and the hope of achieving a more spiritual life as a transcendental goal that results from
the search to find union with God.

Evolution - From single to one
I chose the amethyst stone to represent the journey that each human being makes while passing through life, each one begins to form their destiny in solitude as a unique being, however along the way they find their soul mate and the love of a couple arises to become in unit. Two people sharing emotions, feelings and growing spiritually as individual beings but accompanying and supporting each other throughout their time together on this earth.
